The Virginia Department of Education in collaboration with the Department of Criminal Justice Services has awarded a total of $12.0 million from the Virginia Public School Authority to 399 qualifying schools from 91 school divisions. Dinwiddie County was awarded $153, 715. Offered annually since 2013, this grant provides Virginia localities with critical funds to purchase school security equipment, and update buildings to include security vestibules and other features. These awards are granted as part of the School Security Equipment Grant Act of 2013, and has provided schools with $126 million in investments since then. This year, grants totaled $12.0 million from the Virginia Public School Authority. Eligible school divisions could submit applications for the 2026-2027 school year between July 1, 2026, and August 1, 2026. School divisions were eligible to receive up to $250,000, and awarded schools must remain open for at least five more years.
